Connect Synthesia the piano hero game to your piano

One of the main questions that always return about Synthesia the piano hero game [Read more about Synthesia], is how to connect it to your piano or keyboard.

This is not an obligation: if your piano is connected to your computer then Synthesia reads from it and scores your playing. If not, Synthesia lets you follow along on your own without scoring. Of course, with scoring is a lot more fun and it can figure as a guide for your piano learning process.

So to connect, obviously, you will need a cable. But to know which cable, you should check the back of your piano/keyboard and PC. I've added prices and images so you can easily compare which is the best option for you.


There are three main options that I'm aware of:

1. USB to USB connection

Piano


2. Midi plug to USB (adapter)

MIDI piano


3. Midi to soundcard


Piano midi

    i have the first one but when I plug into my computer it says error you have to download something.. and my piano is a casio lk-90tv .. please help.. sent a message to my e-mal sk8_luka_16@hotmail.com thx

    What is the error that comes up?
    You may have to download the USB driversoftware on the casio website. I think that should make it work. Good luck :)

    First unzip and install it, and check whether you still have the error.

    Did you correctly installed the drivers? (Into this map C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers).

    If so, and it still does not work, is your windows up to date?

    Else i'd e-mail the casio tech support for an answer

    wait.. I don't really get it.. yeah I install save on my desktop.. idk.. but i extract the file and in the file there are 4 stuff.. ccusbmid ( setup information) pl40rmid.drv (device driver) pl4rusb.sys ( system file ) and pl40rvxd (virtual devide driver) I dont get it..

    Yes, you have to extract those files to the map
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers.

    (I've got this sollution from Yahoo answers).

    if i buy the usb connection (no.2) for my keyboard, will i be able to play it whilst synthesia is playing or will i have to purchase the extra part of the game to let me play my keyboard too?

    You can play along with the free version.

    The paid version just has some extra options; e.g. the names of the keys you need to play etc.

    I bought the Midi plug to USB,exacly the same from amazon. The MIDI light turns red, but the IN light keeps blinking and the OUT light doesn't turn on. Can someone help me please?

    You know the game will work with any MIDI file and display it as falling bars and aims to be able to teach beginners how to play the piano.

    Yes, I have sometimes played myself at my QWERTY keyboard. But if you want to get better at playing the piano, I do not recommend playing on a keyboard.
